A Huuug
can be many things! It can be a hello, it can be a goodbye. It can mean “I love you” or it can mean “I’m sorry.” It can even be an object! (Have you met Huuugsleigh? Have you seen our coin purse?)
Anything
that helps a cause, unites people around a problem, provides understanding, shows you how to uplift, and gives a reason to continue — those are our Huuugs.
How Did Huuug Start?
It all began with a question: What would make it better?The answer?
A Huuug!
Our founder Leigh Cadena grew up knowing that things aren’t always easy in life — as a child (and an adult), we sometimes deal with really difficult circumstances beyond our control. But in these times, even a simple Huuug always seemed to make it better.
Leigh coped by creating her own imaginary world — she called it “Heart-Shaped World” because that’s where she wanted to live. In Heart-Shaped World, she spent time creating beautiful, simple ways to make things better for herself and those around her.
With every Huuug from her dolls, her friends, and her animals, Leigh found the strength, courage, and motivation to keep going. There is profound power in such a simple act.
Ultimately, this led Leigh to realize that she was her own hero. She had the power to write her own story.

Acting on this inspiration as an adult, Leigh decided to take a chance and bid on the opportunity to meet with one of the brightest women in the charitable giving space (the former President of RED). This opportunity led Leigh to meet with other visionaries, eventually creating her own league of heros who would help transform the world.

We build nonprofit solutions using for-profit models. By covering our operational costs through partnerships and sponsorships, we ensure that 100% of individual giving dollars go straight to our nonprofit partners.
The reason we focus so much on our social media presence is to ensure we can cover operational expenses through ad revenue. We believe running a nonprofit more like a business will result in the maximum amount of change, and we’ve seen the success of this model as our partnerships grow.
